I am really pleased with the outcome for my Final Major Project as I believe that I have dedicated a lot of time and hard work into it as I wasn't completely confident that this was actually going to work as well as it did. During this time, I think that I have improved a lot at using Construct 2 and I really enjoyed the practicality of creating my own game with my own idea, assets and concept. If I could go back and improve my project, I would create more assets, implement story lore and dialogue into my game and also extend the environment for the player to view and explore.
For most of the project, I believe that I proceeded to complete the series of tasks quite well but some not as well or not as enjoyable in my opinion. Using the events in Construct to program the dialogue system was such as pain and took me so much longer than it should of to figure out how to implement it into the system of my game. I think if I were to repeat the same task again, I could complete it in a much faster time with less stuttering or confusion about what is going on.
I think that I did a great job on the artistic assets for my game, since I used to create pixel art a lot in the past to customise in game textures for other games such as Minecraft and osu!. I really enjoyed creating the pixel art due to the fact that it interests me and I like to put a lot of effort in to making them look very appealing to the audience.
During the project, I didn't really encounter any issues or errors which I'm really happy with because it's a sign that I am improving as a Games Designer myself and becoming more fluent and confident in the programs that I am using to create my work such as using all of the tools, hotkeys, effects etc.
For this whole project for unit 4 and 5, I have worked by myself and completed the FMP with a satisfying finish. I think that I produced a lot of work for this project, especially since I was working by myself which I'm really proud of and another benefit of this is that I'm learning more things in each area of the games industry which I am also really pleased about. I would really like to work in a team one time to work on my coordination abilities and team working skills as that's how it is in the actual industry.
I feel as if my time management was all over the place. I don't think that I stuck to the schedule very well and I felt like I worked on the project when it was only convenient for myself which means that I didn't really put any work in over time but I'd do a large chunk of it in one big go, which is obviously not that great since it can cause things such as stress, depression and panicking. Luckily, I didn't really get stressed at all over the project and had tonnes of fun creating my custom game but I would really like to manage my time much more effectively so I don't overwork.
If I could do the whole unit again, I would definitely try to manage my time much more effectively so that I could frequently be working on the project and make much more content for my game such as levels, areas, assets, cosmetics, story based lore and much more.
